good on you for getting up there! hand held gps unit, topo map compatible is a good piece of kit to make sure you can get yourself back to the track. Did alot for my confidence when I got one and learned how to use it properly.
Especially in the kaimai where navigation can be difficult, dont forget to pack the good ol compass as well though. wouldnt expect to hear too many roars at this time of year tho.

Yeah Compass was so useful!
If I didn't have compass today I might not be righting here right now.
I think it was the other hunters who roared.
