Yep, that's a decent stream to cross. The old tramway clearings are well worth a look along. For hunting that area a compass is all you need as you will only be venturing either East or West and that is simple enough to get back to the track. If you go in off Old Kaimai Road you will cut out a fair bit of the track from the summit.
