My gps has a hard time keeping up and if your just going a wee way off the track the compass is by far the best friend youll ever have.
Like I said , north south track is a good place too start , but don't get too carried away till your confident using a compass too get back too where you started . Your either going too head east or west too return too the track so its not rocket science , just don't panic and leave yourself plenty of time too return.
Spook has a good point about wounding critters with the bow , perhaps you just spend some time in there with a camera until you start finding some good country .
The archery club sounds good , but the nearest bow hunters club would be a better idea.
