Good morning with the boys today, a lengthy stalk and him catching us off guard stalking us, resulted in a close range encounter at 30m. Astonished to find a projectile when removing his jaw! I run the 145gr eldx which has a boat tail and no cannelure. So this poor bugger had been shot in the head previously and still kicking around absolutely fine!

Great job and congrats. Quite the story finding a bullet lodged in his jaw. Makes your stag quite unique.

Good day out and about yesterday. Seven year old Spence with his first proper stag and a neat 12 pointer I managed to snag as well. Both roaring nicely.

A very tidy North Canterbury fallow for the old man this week and an "interesting" marlborough stag taken on last light, found after a lengthy tracking job in the scrubby Manuka.

First Pureoras stag for me today on the eastern side. No monster trophy but always good fun stalking in when it is roaring well. Shot at 10m. Was a hard choice to chase reds or sika on a last minute day off, sika next time. Name: 40AD385D-D201-4AC1-88F0-B1E6F54E59DF.jpeg

I wasn’t being picky at all this roar, having only three days for the whole month. Was a bit early where I went in Southland but still intercepted this fella at 10m as he came in to a roar. Pretty hardcase sort of head, no damage to his body whatsoever.

Would love to see pics here after that head is boiled clean.
Do you think he was an old stag ?

I left it on the hill actually, but i’d say no older than 4-5. Had a young face and good teeth
