Can't be too far off the farmland with gorse like that around. I grew up in Galatea right below the hills.

about 1.5ks back from farmedge, patches of gorse scattered in pockets further back, that place has every prickly bastard tree in NZ waiting for ya if ya take the wrong ridge back to the farm, a delightful mix of 4m high blackberry, with hawthorn hedge + gorse thrown in to top off .... the rusa love the blackberry

You forgot to mention the stinging nettle, especially bad up the northern end around the Ohutu.

Stinging nettle is bad in some areas up there huh, i hunt Galatea alot and it's rare to go a day without getting stung.
