Managed this fella Friday morning. Croaking very well
its not only a beauty...its really unique with the way its shaped...not only the double tops but next tine down is forked too..... a real cracker to be proud of.
@Jus have you cracked the 100km yet?
You have certainly beaten last years stag. And this years one was not living in Africa either by the looks of it [emoji6]
Well done [emoji106]

A mate and I did 109 logged km, there was one big day that my phone was turned off for as I’d forgotten to charge it up the night before. Estimated that day between 8-12 kms based on other days of that size. Pretty worn out now, sipping a cold beer and booking a Thai massage for tomorrow hahaha lost count of how many animals we saw at 50 or so half way through the 2 weeks. Have already put in my leave for the same 2 weeks next year!!!
Good shit !!

Good morning with the boys today, a lengthy stalk and him catching us off guard stalking us, resulted in a close range encounter at 30m. Astonished to find a projectile when removing his jaw! I run the 145gr eldx which has a boat tail and no cannelure. So this poor bugger had been shot in the head previously and still kicking around absolutely fine!

Great job and congrats. Quite the story finding a bullet lodged in his jaw. Makes your stag quite unique.
Nothing special but taken with a rifle that's special to me.

Good day out and about yesterday. Seven year old Spence with his first proper stag and a neat 12 pointer I managed to snag as well. Both roaring nicely.

Nailed this bugger on Mt Maunganui! Got up there early before the fitness lovers scented the place up Attachment 247614Attachment 247615
A very tidy North Canterbury fallow for the old man this week and an "interesting" marlborough stag taken on last light, found after a lengthy tracking job in the scrubby Manuka.

First Pureoras stag for me today on the eastern side. No monster trophy but always good fun stalking in when it is roaring well. Shot at 10m. Was a hard choice to chase reds or sika on a last minute day off, sika next time. Attachment 247740

I wasn’t being picky at all this roar, having only three days for the whole month. Was a bit early where I went in Southland but still intercepted this fella at 10m as he came in to a roar. Pretty hardcase sort of head, no damage to his body whatsoever.
@hebe
Would love to see pics here after that head is boiled clean.
Do you think he was an old stag ?
the guys growing velvet would love that one...not much good to them now LOL.
Molesworth 10. The culmination of a great hour and a half stalk in the howling northwester. He broke his left trey off when he fell.

Shot this spiker on last day of seven day trip, right on the main divide in South Westland.
Thought my stag from the same area in 2022 was going to be hard to beat.
Think this is his brother or uncle - they're definitely the same blood.
He gave us the slip several times during the week and tormented us with his roars across the valley every night.
I ended up sneaking into his bedroom and shooting him at 15 yds, he still hasn't seen me.

Shot a couple more, but they're not that exciting. Just old.
Cheers
Josh
@Shearer
Congrats Shearer, what a beauty. May I ask which Molesworth block, if you're prepared to say ? No probs if you would rather not.
I love Molesworth but never hunted there during the Roar.
My rut so far, a couple of public land animals. Tahr up next, with a week planned in a west coast ballot block.

Couple of bucks from this morning
Roared this fella in first thing in the morning came charging down 200m of elevation, shot him 30m from our tents, an interesting old character head from the southern ruahinesAttachment 248030
Nice old cull with the boys today. Pretty exciting stuff, had 4 bucks croaking around us, a couple walked past less than 50 yards away in full rut mode. This one came to about 30 yards away and I shot it as it walked up on us. Boys watched the whole thing play out, they were stoked.
