    Hi Barry and Gibo
His nuts seemed normal as were his feet. He is only a 3yr old looking at his teeth which were all in perfect condition with little wear. His body condition was very good for the area. I have shot a similar one about 3 kms away about 5 years ago as well. I shot this one across the valley (200m) from the stag with the curly tops in the attached photo Name: 20230413_121308.jpg

A bit more meat for the freezer, Te Urewera. Been very quiet the last few days, only hearing the odd half hearted moan.

Only special because vintage rifle and in the pouring rain this evening
My quest to shoot a good stag with my 1885 30-40 continues
In last 6 weeks fallow spiker, red hind, red stag ***** well there's a good story to tell about that one, red spiker and now this red stag.
Great hunt in the pouring rain and has seen a good stag and roared him in and shot at 50m and turns out to be this one I hadn't seen previously

Zoom right in and look at the rifle and you will see it's bloody wet.

Nothing is too good to go hunting.

No bang flop from that shot
The one in the shoulder finished him off once he ran into the open

Not so easy when it's getting dark and pouring

Heard 5 stags roaring across 1500m face this morning
    But all totally un huntable

Talked to an old school mate at Pongaroa and the wild deer on his place are going hard out, have broken most of his single string elec fences

    Stags and Bucks 2025

3 roars in a row of hunting this public land area, coming up empty.
This guy was holding hinds, and no good head despite his age, so right one to take I guess.
My first roaring stag too. @Micky Duck - was on big slip.
