That's the 7th deer I've shot with the 1885 30-40 since late February when I shot a 14 pointer with my modern rifle
The 30-40 has proven pretty handy inside 250m
This 180 grain RN Hornady in the off side shoulder on a 15m shot
This was a very big stag with an extremely thick hide

No big trips for me this year, just a few day hunts and overnighters. Still managed to get onto a few animals and have some fun with friends and family. Mostly hunted on open public land blocks this year as we lucked out on ballots…saw a lot of hunters, which is cool and not so cool! [emoji23]
My eldest (9) shot his first deer at one of my forests, perfect front on, 120m shot. Sacked it on the spot. Pretty cool, I shot my first deer when I was 9 and it was a spiker too. He was chuffed.

Buck with boys and wife. Boys spotted it before me so we had to shoot it.

Young fella with a buck croaking hard in the bush. He’d got an arrow into him at 30yds but we needed the rifle to finish him off. Awesome hunt (haven’t asked to share his face [emoji3526])

Old stag on heavily hunted public land, caught him sneaking out a gully below us after the wind swung and spooked some hinds.

Another old boy. Started roaring 20 minutes before dark and managed to entice him out with some roaring and antler scraping on a post. He circled the bush line onto a big open face and my cousin pulled off an awesome 450m shot. (Haven’t asked to share cousins face [emoji3526])

Nice stags guys,well done.
Look forward to that
Bucks croaking well in the CNI over the weekend.
Snuck in on a ripper and had full draw at 20yds but he was either busy chasing off satellites, rounding up does or strategically positioning himself behind manuka.
Shot this guy the next day at 9 yards front on as he crested a small hill.I had seen him exit the manuka and could see his antlers approaching my way so was ready at full draw when he showed himself. Attachment 273415

Wicked buck would love to get my hands on one of them . One of the best coloured head skins ive seen ! Public or private ?
He better have kept it.... I believe a certain "non Maori mate" of ours will be rather annoyed if it got wasted.
And before anyone gets all woke PC and upset.thats private joke as my Mrs heard his booming laugh and voice and had metal image of a brown brother.. we give her shit about it often.
Relax i have kept it, it's going in for a shoulder mount, private land but very much wild non fenced heard in the high country. Buck of a lifetime for me.
Roughly scored at 310 DS
Even with a few tines that don't score because no counter points

My youngest on the board with his first stag.

Another stag for Spence. Early birthday present before he turned 9 today.
Fairly typical Ruahine stag. Pretty exciting for the young fulla as he came charging in roaring his head off.

Got this big 6 point sika stag this morning, big brows and plenty of length, 35 inches! Shame he didn’t have a couple of extra points. Pretty happy with him anyway. Attachment 273978
