    Stags a roaring!

Seems the stags in some places(prob like anywhere thou) have started early around nelson.
Went to get the game camera today, been at a wallow since Feb the 5th. Found a fresh rut pad not far of the wallow and the wallow been used quite well.
Looking at the footage got a seven pointer, a scrubby 4 and a spiker plus a hind and a 50 lb pig on it.
The seven pointer been at the wallow quite a few times and got footage of him roaring in wallow on FEB 17th, Feb 27th and march the 2nd. Pity no sign of any decent stag thou but Feb 17th is quite early around here for them to be roaring so anyday from now is well worth a look Smiley

I got a month off from the 31st but only have 4-5 days to myself. Rest of it is trying to find an animal for other people.
Have some regulars that are competent, good bastards and even like a good whiskey.😆

Stags in the sounds are wallowing but man it's been hot out there, some of the farm stags have started roaring. Just need some cooler southerly weather. The wild deer didn't start roaring until 16th of march last year in Marlborough.

I am only using a bow this year so will how I go this year but I have 7 weeks off the get one, this is my last weeks shift at work and don't have to go back until 3rd of May.

Yeah, nelsons been hot as but that stag was roaring 17th feb and 27 th. Weather doesnt seem to be the biggest factor, just when the hinds start cycling, some early and some late. Normally around here i hear them from the 18th odf march til 1st april and thats it. havnt heard a stag roar in april around here for the last few years but maybe just havnt been in the right place

I live on a deer farm and the buggers started on 28 Jan and have been none stop since. They go on until August apparently. Plenty of scope to practice calling at least.
