Thread: Stags still have antlers

Went for a bush stalk today. Had abit of a poor shooting day(did have a crap steep postion to shoot from..my excuse anyway) After having a couple of shots at a deer from a difficult position with the 308, and not sure if I hit the deer or not as it was still standing ok after losing sight of it for a moment.
A 6 pointer stag stool up from its bed and had a shot at that as well(missed that one) Thought the other deer went down so went over for a look, found heaps of blood but the deer was gone. Tracked it for 150m with abit of blood before I lost it and after a very long search didn't find it.
Very disappointing to say the least. Any way, that stag still had antlers

The big boys should have dropped by now(relatively speaking this is Nelson after all ) but the young fellas may carry them even untill late Jan.

Bugger about the result. Unfortunately it happens.

Older stags with bigger heads will mostly have dropped by now. Although recently seen a couple of good 10's & 12 pointers still holding on.

Not uncommon to see younger stags with smaller antlers still on top later in the year. I've seen them as late as last week in November still hard antler. Spikers right into jan/feb.
