    Steward island

    Hi
Has any one hunted between kuri point and seal point?
It's past The Lords river. I'm talking about in the open hunting zone?
Also like to know if you can land by boat in any of the bay's or is it better to fly in.
    Cheers

Big kuri or Toitoi Bay are pretty sheltered, dependent on weather and swell direction. Can land in them by boat, been into Big Kuri a couple of times in ours, it has a pretty nice wee beach. Toitoi leads into a river and you can nose up into that a bit at low tide to get shelter. Other than that your options are a bit limited till you get down the coast further to Pegasus etc.

Walked into Toitoi Flat a couple of years back, didn't really hunt, just wandered and I think it was about 8-9 deer I bumped into. They were quiet as too. One was a buck which ghosted through the crown fern and regrettably I took too long to get a bead on him expecting him to cross through a hollow in front of me, but he turned behind a tree and scarpered directly away from me instead!

Thanks guys both information is very helpful.
JoshC looks like you had a good challenging roar! Good luck on the fallow Buck rut!
Still in the early stages of planning this one logistics coming in from the uk are going to be a right laugh.
Might have to have a rest up in Thailand on the way back if I do that then I'll bring my .243 Belguim made BLR you interested Josh?

Yeh roar was ok, probably one of the more challenging ones compared to most. Still not over yet though, heard a red roaring last night but ran out of daylight to close the gap. Fallow croaking well now too.

If you need somewhere to stay in Southland on-route to the Island shouldn't be a problem to stay at ours, could drop you down at Bluff too probably if need be.

Are you going to give it to me when you leave? Lol There's a couple BLR's on trademe at the moment, trying hard not to look at them. Haa

Judging from the comment that you left on the left handed rifle post this BLR might be to flash for you. the image is on the walnut and blue steel post page two

Lol, my BLR was walnut blued but with pistol style grip in .308, had a Kahles 1-6 on it, was an awesome bush gun - wish I never sold it

And my go to A-bolt 223 is a nice walnut blued rifle...

Used to go down several times a year as had friends with a house there we'd use as a base. Now lucky if I get over once or twice.
