Post Suggestions for Taking Two Friends Hunting in the Ureweras

    Kia ora NZHS whānau,

I’m planning to take two of my mates hunting and want to introduce them to the Ureweras. We’re coming from Auckland, and this will be their first proper hunting trip. I’m looking for advice on spots where we can:

Park up easily, preferably somewhere secure.
Set up camp not too far from the hunting areas.
Get into some decent hunting terrain that’s beginner-friendly (not too steep or dense for them).
We’ll be focusing on red deer, but I’m open to other opportunities in the area as well.

If anyone knows someone I can contact for advice or guidance on the area, please let me know. Even better if there’s someone who might be willing to share some local knowledge or point me in the right direction.

Appreciate any wisdom you’re willing to share!

    Cheers

I would recommend Richard in a heart beat. Hopefully he is still looking after his bit of paradise.

My mate got back to his car parked at the end of River Road, Minginui to find his fuel tank had been drilled and drained.

Just be aware that some areas are better than others when leaving your vehicle at or around some road ends.

Get one of the locals to drop youse off at papatotara( something totara been loong time since I was there) and head into kakawahine flat, huts probably been burnt down by dog, then head downstream to third ck and up that over into otanatea, to otanatea hut then hunt both forks of waterfalls and on to upper then scoot thru to kakawahine flat and out to the saddle back where you started.

Bastards. Didn’t think there was much trouble around that car park.
