    Sunday Arvo Wander

Been having pretty average sleeps lately as am still shaking this woman flu and working night shifts. This morning I was up early to pick up the hung over other half from the airport then back to bed!

But at mid afternoon when I woke up with the sun streaming in, I figured it'd be a waste of the day to not go for a walk.

Off to spot x, hoping the goats had come down to the flats so I didn't have to bust my butt too much. Since I've put a lot of pressure on the north part of the farm, I headed south to the "Death Valley" - heaps of fallen Makara trees and steep, slippery bluffs.

It wasn't long until I spotted a small black goat on a clearing. I took a prone position in the grass and waited for him to present side on but it wasn't to be. I'm really picky with my shots these days and I could have smoked him in the back but decided I was only after neck shots.

Hung over hubby in toe, I headed closer. As we broke into the shorty loud scrubby deadfall, I regretting wearing shorts desire the hot weather!!! Further sidling around and out popped a nanny on the adjacent face.

I hummed and hawed about the shot, remembering my promise to myself about clean neck shots only. I sat down on the steep bluff cutting down to the river, zoomed in my scope, calmed my breath and with an exhale I squeezed off the shot.

I'd instructed the man to cover his ears and watch my shot but there was no need really. At only 80m away, she slumped in a heap instantly.

We went back out the way we came and stumbled across more goats on the ridge. I stalked within 10m of them but know my close range shots are shit! With one wrong step on a twig, they ran into some gorse. Too hard basket for me!!!

Back down the hill and I grabbed the fella and we set off to find my nanny. I took the lead and without much effort found the small break in the Broom where my goat lay. I navigated the fringe of gorse and slipped down to stand beside her. I turned to pull her body up and OUCH!!!!! Was there a hot, sharp wire hidden in the scrub? I looked back and discovered that is been slashed across the thigh and bum cheek with some flippin' Onga Onga!!!!!

A difficult slog back up through the Broom commenced. At a small clearing I gutted her and made her into a pikau.

Processing in the dark and now home to nurse my burning leg and bum. Good day though - plenty of meat for the farmers dogs and back straps to be made into curry for yours truly. Enjoy.
