    Tahr Ballot. Able Lake

    Hi All.
I have scored Able lake in the Adam's Wilderness area for the 6th period. Does anyone have any information on this block as I have not been there before?

Happy to help anyone heading into the Landsbrough, been there a few times now to most blocks.

    Cheers
    VTR

Hi VTR We had the Able Lake block many years ago (96) the true left held a lot of Thar and we seen some nice looking bulls standing on rock outcrops but out of reach. We aren't mountaineers so the country was a bit scary for us North Islanders. It would pay to take some good mountaineering gear. From the valley floor we seen on the last day upwards of a 100 thar some bulls fighting for prime positions. You can walk a fair way up the Perth but when we were there we had a snowfall and made walking around the face a bit hairy. Good luck with your hunt and look forward to seeing how you go.

Beautiful spot. Hunting not that great. Animals tend to be too high even during the rut.

We were in there this year in june 4th period i think. Cracker of a spot. managed 6 bulls best being 14.5'. Heaps of bulls there just depends how confident you are on the bluffs. Awesome rock bivvy where you will be dropped in. true left straight above camp is best, then opposite up adverse creek was mint to. Hard country all the same. We got out only 2 out of 7 as weather was so bad. Good luck

Yup, hunted that a few years ago, all the above is true. We were able to see tahr from camp most of the time it wasnt raining. One and only time I've used crampons, and that was to get up the odd waterfall when it was frozen first thing in the morning - no biggy, werent that high and it was probably easier climbing it frozen rather than when it was running. Good numbers of bulls, and if you can get that first 100 metres of elevation, I found the rest wasnt that bad. Have fun, you will get tahr

Thanks for that team. One thing sounds very common, tahr are in good numbers, and steep country. Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Pongo12 your photos of camp and Adverse Stream are interesting as we were dropped further up stream above Able Lake, so they have obviously changed the landing site, very nice Bull, was that off the Perth or Adverse?

From memory ( 21 years is a while ah Gibo) we could not even see Adverse Stream from our camp. Never the less it still looks like a good spot for a hunt.
