Can anyone give me a link to the application form for the tahr ballot, I cannot for the life of me find it, maybe I'm just having a man look but I'm sure it was just linked from the tahr information page on the doc website in the past.

Thats the one Gibo, cheers!
so is this just a ballot to get droped off? can you still hunt the area without a helicopter drop
Yeap but good luck walking into most of the blocks, allow yourself three or more days either side to get in and out...
Application done, went for Barlow, Lord , and Lambert as I know the blocks well, also applied for Zora as a bit of a wildcard. Fingers and toes crossed...
What number were you? I was 1500 I think, crazy how it's taken off, I'd say will be full of guides and overseas hunters

all the youtube videos showing just how do-able it is to the world are not helping.
Cheers for the heads up, I didn't realise the close off date was so early this time round.
The application fee has friggen jumped up in price a bit, 200% :wtfsmilie:
Could someone clarify this up for me as I've never applied for this specific ballot. Is this for a paid flight in and out of the area? or is it for access to the area and you have to pay separately for your flights?
I am happy with the cost. It will deter some people trying to fudge the ballot.
If Doc would stop
non- residents being allowed to apply, it would be even better.
I wont be f@#ked with the blocks when there is 1500 applicants.
Waste of money. Happy to hunt other areas.

Did they start the numbering at 1 though? I wouldn't be surprised if they started at 1000.
$60 doesn't get you a steak dinner these days mate and the money is put towards managing the resource. DOC could always just go in there in march and bomb them all up but they are giving recreational hunters an opportunity to bag a decent bull and some meat in an area that they aggressively manage with aerial culling anyhow.
Well they already have 93k to put towards helicopter time now.
Doc do not manage shit when it comes to introduced species no matter how long they have been here. Apart from culling them. That's their management style.
They have been approached by numerous parties on improving the ballot.
Only price has gone up.
They couldn't give a rats ass who is in the back country as long as they get some coin.

Have to agree with R93, when I was working in Pest Control I worked with DOC staff from time to time and the staff I dealt with were mostly taught to treat all introduced animals as pests and need to be removed from the back country. Not all are like that but many are, unfortunately. They mostly want to see our bush a thick jungle you can't get through, me I prefer it open and to see and hear deer not just birds.
Just applied / application number 1751!
Wow I nearly missed out! Thanks for the heads up guys!! I will be getting my ballot in tomorrow. Far out that is early this year!
You should put in a ballot @GWH
Just applied / application number 1875!
Draw is next wednesday I think. If I miss out im going to do a mission into a spot outside the ballot if anyone wants to share costs?
Draw is today, good luck everyone. They say they will let everyone know successful or not by 14 December but that's usually via snail mail, usually get an email straight away if you have been successful.
Got an email today

Stoked! Got Lambert 3 June- which I was after
:) :) :) :)
Well poke me in the bum with a pointy stick, I got one too.
Edison River  meant to be not to bad, but any info would be appreciated , chur
Baker river period 3 for me
Mine is period 6 which is late but in my experience the animals have started to move around a bit by that stage and a face that may hold nothing one day may all of a sudden have a mob moving through the area the next day. Still, long time to wait for my alpine fix so I reckon some chams are in order for January/February :)
Mahitahi period 2 , any info would be much appreciated!
Bubble creek period 5 👍
Well done to those who got a block. I missed out for the 3rd year in a row.
Hope your fit haha I was there last ballot 3rd period . Was a nice spot but have to climb. We only got a day and a half out or 4 days hunting and flew out early due to bad weather but got a 8.75 inch chamois and one tahr about 12 but he broke a horn after falling off a cliff . Would go there again but not in the weather we had :)
