Tahr Ballot Balls Up by DoC

Just had a mate tell me that he his party got a block in the Perth for the tahr ballot in May. Then he has just received a letter from DoC to say the ZIP is going to be doing a massive 1080 operation in the Perth at the same time! So they have asked if he would like to continue, or a refund, or book the block for next year.
This just aint bloody good enough, yet another piss take from DoC, shafting recreational hunters again and again! and for a pointless exercise for Predator Free 2050, an ideal that we all know just aint gonna work. And Zip will have staff in the area monitoring the tahr to see what effect the 1080 will have on tahr. Personally I think its a poorly disguised attempt to use 1080 on tahr in the future.

Not saying your mate should have know about it but most of us on the coast have been aware of the drop for a while.

    Suck ass alright.

Although I don't condone the use of 1080 at all, there are a fucktonne of possums all through there, I walked into Nolans Flat and night time was like something out of a horror movie with them all scrapping and carrying on, also had Lambert River block during ballot couple years back and was surprised that even way up there above the bush line there was still a heap of coons in the scrub, we must have shot 5 or 6 just around our camp in the evenings

Yea thats bloody lousy alright, especially when you have been looking forward to your ballot.

Doc cant have poisoned enough kea yet! Very high risk operation for the kea to aerial poison these alpine areas.
Save our Tahr. They belong in the southern alps.

I don't think thar eat 1080 baits but helicopters spreading it while you are hunting is a pain.

I’d ask for the refund and to keep the booking as they should not have opened the block with air operations going on.
Would I go? Himmm if I don’t have a plan B then maybe.
Dose rather suck though as others have said.
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.

I'm one of the blocks affected as well. Bit of a shame as its the first ballot I have got in the last 5 years of applying down here. Just can't afford to fly in and risk choppers buzzing around as. The latest email imply on some days there may be up to 6-7 choppers working to complete the prefeeding and 1080 drops in single days.

of interest to some of you , this zip drop is an experimental drop where they double sow everything and then try keep the area free of pests using leghold traps with people based in there fulltime.
It seems like an absolute pipedream doomed to fail but im sure they will spin it as a success.

If Tahr are anything like normal goats they won't get many with the 1080 if that's what it's all about. The TB operations we were involved in in the 80's in the King Country didn't do any damage to the populations.

well savage270........THAT is/has got to be a step in right direction at least, attempting to keep numbers down with ground operators vs more green rain has been the catch cry for years...lets hope they can make a good go of it.
