Thanks

In light of the current culling I think I would be looking at areas that have plenty of cover so the Tahr have some places to escape. A lot of the lands bough has scrubby areas lower down so still could be good. I did read that DOC are considering using ground hunters in the scrub areas as the animals are hard to get using choppers in there.
It would be interesting to hear from parties that have hunted the ballot blocks this year to see how much damage has been done to the herds, anyone on this forum been in this year?
Anyone? ballots not far away from opening. For those that went in this year how did you find the animal numbers?
Worked well. Doc people very helpful. They are also managing Haast Roar blocks just before this so are busy - be kind to them.
Two of us applied and we got one block.
Each person in the party can apply separately for blocks. You only need to finalise the names in the party in January when you get the landing permit. It would pay to check as they could change the rules.
Good numbers of bulls but very few nannies.
Kill returns and bird sightings were confusing with reporting back to DoC and the tahr foundation using different formats - unclear which it was. Apart from number of animal believed killed they will only get "garbage out".
Thanks for reply
Party"s found to have entered more than once will have applications voided and no refund given.
That would be fair but its clear that in 2020 it was one application per party leader then.
There was nothing to stop an unsuccessful applicant being a member of someone elses party. In practice this meant a party of 4 could only make 4 applications and with dropouts and team changes the scope for abuse was limited.
This is the most recent info i could find on a quick internrt search: https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-re...s-tahr-ballot/
