    Tahr Hunt 2025 May

    G'day
About me, i'm a NZer now living in Darwin for the last 10 years. I get back to NZ every year for the last few years, for Chamois hunting with my Kiwi Mate (he's from the North Island) We have had some success, but we would now like to shift our attention to getting a Bull Tahr each in winter cape, hence the May Trip
I have shot a couple of Tahr, a nice one back in the 90s when i was in my early 20s, and one a few years ago in summer up the Hopkins Valley.
I'm seeking help on a location for a Tahr hunt for next May. We are both reasonably mountain fit and know what we are in for. Would prefer the East coast side of the device to avoid the sheer ruggedness of the West Coast. I'm just not up for risking my life like I used to.
Was thinking about Forest Creek or possibly one of the valleys to the left of the highway on the way up to Mt Cook from Pukaki.
I will be in NZ for a Month and hope to do several hunts while there. Don't mind flying or hiking in. We have all the gear and understand the risks and weather etc.
Any help on a location would be really appreciated. We are really just after a Bull for the Wall, Doesnt need to be a monster. late 11" + is fine.
In return I have good access to Pig hunting, waterfowl and Buffalo hunting in Australia in a shared cost Scenario. I have friends from Down South and NZ that visit every year that I take hunting so i'm serious about offering a hunt.

    Cheers

Pity about ballots, as there's some good areas on the coast you could fly into, random, heads of Jacobs, rules are crap. If you can ever get dropped into the Dauglas between the two gorges, great bush hunting there. Tons there but too many rules, oops I said that before.
