I agree with Brian. He and I have had some great trips at that time of the year.
I enjoy the winter too, but it can be a bit tough going if you aren’t alpine experienced, because they are very high then.
The ranges are mostly exaggerated and over-talked. 250 yards is about average in my experience. I’ve shot plenty under 200 yards, and have often just used my .243.
If a trophy is really important to you a big banger that will reach out will be an advantage, but the downside is you will find that the number of animals you can’t recover will increase.
