Taking a deer head on a plane

    Hi all,
I’m wondering if anyone knows the process of taking a deer head on a plane. Shot yesterday have cleaned up most of the meat I can without boiling it, have removed eyes brains etc. flying with air nz in the morning. Be keen to hear what you guys think
    Cheers,

From previous threads on this topic, lots of plastic bags and duct tape. Find a few short lengths of garden hose for the spiky bits on the top

Wrap the skull up then get a big roll of cardboard from Mitre 10 and plenty tape, wrap the shit out of it and you’ll be good.

Went through this process myself last year and made a similar post... as @223nut said above, put skull in a couple black rubbish bags with plenty of duct tape around base of coronets etc to ensure there are no leaks. Cover antler points with short lengths of either garden hose or pool noodle etc and you should be good to go.

Bit late now but with Air NZ pay for the extra bag online before getting to airport which is $35 , otherwise they sting you about $80 at the airport when checking in

Nothing too special. First sika however so pretty chuffed with it. Fortunately being a sika I’ve managed to just cram it into a big suitcase so I’ll take that with me. Head wrapped up with a few socks etc on the tines. Cheers for all the help team

Yea it was unreal, it was a pretty tough decision to not take it off. But I don’t think it would’ve survived

yep, flew Queenstown to Auckland late March with a nice big 12 point head. Had skinned the skull, wrapped in newspaper then 2 black rubbish bags, tapped up well then secured to my pack with paracord. The AirNZ lady at check-in was not impressed - had to undo my handi work and pack the head into very large heavy duty plastic bag, which she supplied. Added some more cardboard & tape over the pointy bits and put it through as an extra bag. Don't think she charged me for it ? or maybe only $35 - certainly would have remembered if it was $80 !!
