Tauranga it New Plymouth this Friday

    Hi

All have a family trip planned including meeting our son who has just moved to Wellington there.

Was looking at going via Mangakino and Mokau. Anyone live in the area and can comment on moving through the Mokau area?

Would it just be best to suck up the extra drive and go via Whanganui or the Forgotten HW?

Won't be stopping along the way just a straight drive through.

I do this drive all the time, best route I have found is from Tga to Te Awamutu, cut around TA and down the line. Love that drive

Another quick question, how much gravel is there left on the forgotten he was a bit either side of Whangamomana when I went through a few years ago, wasn't too bad though

Straight down SH1, turnoff Marton, thru to Wanganui, up thru to NP, pick up a Fallow thru Wanganui on way home. Far better drive for comfort!

Because north of that is in level 2 and unless you are an essential worker it's a no go

Long way to retrace your steps if you come via Awakino Gorge and Mokau is still copped up when you arrive there. Isn't there also a local iwi presence?
At least you can grab a nice (but expensive) whitebait fritter before heading back the way you came.

I live on the forgotten world highway...about 12km of gravel to negotiate..weekend traffic has increased due to the mokau border closure...drive carefully...no fuel between taumarunui and stratford...
