Thread: Te Urewera novices

My mate and I are planning on hunting in Te Urewera in a couple of weeks
We're thinking about a 4-5 day trip down from Auckland.
Any of you guys got any experience hunting there?
Where are good access points and places to park? we were thinking somewhere in Ruhatanua maybe?

Hopefully all goes well and we'll manage to get a couple animals each .

Get hold of Richard White from Ruatahuna and get him to drop you off through his clearing, it will cost you about $70 for the pair of you.

Walk down river to Te Totara hut, its warm and a nice wee hut. Contact number is 07 3663941 or you can e-mail him at Ahurei Adventures. Richard is a hell of a nice bloke
and knows the area well

Good advice there. Theres also plenty of nice campsites past Ruatahuna towards the Lake. At least with a road end mission you can take a few comforts.

Yeah that's what I thought, I'm guessing the "private Tuhoe land" was meant?
would it be correct for me to assume I can hunt on any "open" area that I want as long as I have a permit.

Do you know if Te Totara Hut is still standing, seems like a good place to go as Chop3r suggested.

You now get a permit from Tuhoe direct, not doc.
Tetotara was very much still there a year ago. Richard White is your man

Not sure midway was the last one to get burnt there were 2 others further down weren't doc huts but anyone was welcome to stay in them they were nice huts as well

How's they get burned down anyway? Was it arson or accidents?

Can't say for sure and don't quote me as romour has it that it was arsonholes
