    Te Ureweras Closed?

Hi all. I have heard rumours, read the Facebook post, and had a friend have a confusing discussion with a local business regarding whether the road to Waikaremoana is open. From the NZTA website it appears open, and the Facebook post IMO appears to relate to the lake and great walk being closed. Can anyone else provide any other info regarding the current state of road access from Murupara to Lake Waikaremoana? Weather permitting we are planning on heading into the area.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you wanting to know if the road is open, or are you wanting to know if the Ureweras are open for hunting? Or both?

Both. Sorry, I knew what I meant in my head. Is the road open between Murupara and Lake Waikaremoana, and if so can we go hunting in the permitted Urewerwa areas along this stretch of road?

FYI, just applied for a received another hunting permit through the Tuhoe website. No mention of any closures (road or otherwise) or restrictions (above and beyond their standard ones).

He lives on the side of one of the Rotorua Lakes, high enough out of the drink to stay dry from most biblical sized rain events.

    From Te Urewera Facebook page.

Looks like the great walk is closed for the rest of the season.

Yeah when everything downstream is fairly damp they probably don't need any more water.

and apparently they started dumping water well before Gabrielle arrived to lower the water level so they could hold water back if needed. But are legally required to release XYZ amount of water.

They are EX tropical cyclones, the tropical label gets dropped once it passes a certain latitude. They can still be a Cyclone, just not a Tropical one.

no, they are no longer a cyclone when the central pressure is above a certain level about 960 milibars, also wind strength which determines category 1 - 5, hence low wind and rain plenty of it
