Hey team,
I'm the process of diving down rabbit holes looking at investing in a thermal.
Pretty keen on either the OPIR-L35R 384x288 made by Nocpix or the Leopard 480 - 35LRF made by PARD
Keen to get anyone's unbiased opinions on either. The good, bad, and everything in-between.

I use pard gear for work have had zero issues with any unit I have and recommend it
I’m in exactly the same boat but looking at the same pard or the sytong xs03-35. Difficult to decide between all the choices when you don’t know what you’re deciding about.
If you know Perrin or paddy ask them to have a look at their units both run the pards
I had a Infra-ray eye 2, 50mm handheld and loved it. simple operation.
Recently changed to a Hik-micro 35mm. Way more detail in the software removing pixelisation.
Bought both from Peter Milne on here. NZGR Hunts.
Can't beat his price or support.
I compared a Pard with my Sytong last night, albeit my sytong is a 50mm and the Pard smaller. There was no comparison looking for and identifying deer. Sytong about twice as good as the Pard.
I suggest you consider the Sytong, i have looked through a few brands and went for this as it just blows everything else out of the water.

I looked at the different options and purchased a Sytong. It’s unbelievable and Ken is brilliant to deal with.

Sytong XS06 - 50. I don’t think they stock them but can be ordered in. I have one and they are brilliant. Tahr put me onto that model.
Yes, this. It doesn't have a built in range finder. Not the best for close bush stuff - brilliant for everything else.Quote:

The new leopards are another step up again.
Fraser is also great to deal with and puts alot of video up done in nz with tips and how tools.

Tech is moving that quick with electro optics it is hard to know when to jump in and buy.
It's a good time to be buying this sort of tech as so competitively priced and almost at the point of to much choice in brands which isn't a problem until support disappears.

I'm going to get a sytong xs03-25 for Bush stalking. Might help convert more spooked animals into meat for the freezer.

Yes special order. We anre ordering stock at least once a month, so wait time no longer than 3-4 weeks.
I don't know anything about the Nocpix, but own a number of the Pard NV and thermal products, and a Sytong clip on NV unit.
I think you would be perfectly happy with either a Pard or Sytong, my TA32-25 has taken all sorts of abuse over nearly 3 years and hasn't missed a beat.
Having LRF is a very good idea and the 388/480 pixel units will do pretty much everything you want, as long as you get a base magnification that suits your needs ( too much mag in close bush is unhelpful and not enough for work in open tops is not great either).
However, you'd be unlikely to regret the benefits of a 640 either if your budget stretches that far. If you do get bitten by the 640 bug, the Pard Leopard 640 LRF is seriously good value at the moment at $3100.
There’s some interesting developments incoming in thermal monoculars. Will be getting hands on in a couple of weeks at Shot Show.
