I have family who live in Te Aroha and they say there are a few people around town talking about hunting Thompson and Tuahu track. Rumor has it someone took a nice 12 pointer out of Tuahu over the roar. Whats hunting these track like can anyone tell me?

On the Thursday before Easter we had torrential rain and brought down many slips on Thompsons Track...at this point I don't know how far you can actually walk as I have only done about 1.5 kms...that was about 6 slips...the forestry guys are saying there are plenty of deer at the 6 km mark...they [forestry] come in from a separate private access road...There are always stories about 12 pointer stags being shot around Tuahu...never seen one yet in the flesh...most of that area is done under lights...I have never understood why people rush into areas where massive stags have been shot...like, its gone, it aint there no more, history...shit loads of deer around in the Kaimais...just got to push your way past the wankers and get in deeper...you will hear plenty of peeps bleat about the supplejack, but that's where the big boys are...deep in the shit...secateurs and a good mind set is what you need.
