    Thompsons track waikato

Hey guys, we have had a potential job offer on a new farm for next season. This farm has Thompson’s track running through it. We frequently hunt other tracks around the area but wanted to know if anyone has hunted Thompson’s and had any luck? We have always wanted to go up but haven’t had a chance, would be pretty stoked if it’s a good patch, especially if we are farming it and can get up often.

Don't worry about the hunting i'd be buying a 4x4 machine or a bike and having fun. Having a reliable recovery machine could be a side line $$

Lots of deer around the Kati Kati region, bush is challenging but they are there, most likely a few roaming the property you will be on.

if you take a quad or a motorbike up, just be aware those "large potholes" can swallow a horse,i shit you not. saw a guy up there and he was trying to pull his horse out, only the head, neck and saddle horn was showing.( Offered help but after a polite "how the fuck are you gonna help, huh ?" i left them to it.) I remember seeing a dead deer in one as well a few years back.
    Otherwise, plenty of deer.

She is a fair slog up but the bush edge around what they call the hundred acre paddock is definitely worth a gander at dawn and dusk.

The track has had milling activity and some slippage over the last few years and in truth I do not know its condition today but go for a recce on foot and when you get to the top (from the Waikato side) turn left along the North South track and after a couple of hundred yards look left into the expansive grassed area.
