I was going to fly to either one,but may end up hunting from my mates at Lake Kaniere.
I was up at Toaroha saddle biv a couple of roars back, When we took off in chopper with Matt at Precision Helicopters (great guy) he asked us why we wanted to go so far back in, and he mentioned way more animals out on front country behind the farms......he was right. Great country with alot of history, but almost barren of animals due to constant waro. Although almost no waro since then and numbers building up again i hear, We flew out and did well in some day hunts in handy spots
Yeah will have a chat with Matt, pretty keen to look at some of the big country, what was tops travel like at the biv,not really interested in deer except for a tadty one at the end perhaps, mainly to chase some chamois for something different
yeah, easy ridge to walk / glass from either direction from biv, spectacular country looking south toward Bluff hut / Sir Robert hut. Hopefully animal numbers have improved in last 2 or 3 years without constant waro. If you get a big blow while up there, you will see the reason for those thick wire ropes holding down each corner of biv haha
Has anyone been out these ways around Toaroha/Mungo in recent times? Looking at flying in there soon so keen on any reports from the area. Cheers
Cheers SmokeyJason. As it happens we have decided to go a bit further south but Toaroha certainly looks like a good place to explore next time. Cheers
