Tongaporutu - Taranaki
Hi Guys,
We have a family Bach in Tongaporutu, Taranaki. looking for a bit of advice on some handy hunting areas – I’ve never hunted down Taranaki way.
We have a bit of private land for sighting in but no hunting opportunities.
I know there’s a tonne of goats in the area, may have to spend some time door knocking.
We are heading down for a week over easter/ anzac week
Cheers Guys

Most of the public land around there is land locked or on the wrong side of a river. Do you have a little dingy at the bach?? If so go for a boat up the Mokau. Public land is mainly on the southern bank. look up WAMS and see where all the public land starts and stops. Was up the river last year and could have shot 50 goats in a couple of hours if I had had the rifle along. I Intend to go back up there and do a goat freezer filler mission in Wintertime when we have a nice anticyclone overhead after a bit of rain to assist getting up as far as we can.

Thanks for the info! Is the river all tide for a small dinghy or best to wait for high I’ve got a takacat 3.6
I had a look on the map looks like it’s not too far from the bridge up the river.

Yeah, shes tidal a long way up. best to use the tide to your advantage.
