Track between Upper Te Hoe and Central Te Hoe

    Good evening.
I'm planning on a big walk in the Whirinaki early in the New Year with my boy and the dog. The Doc website says the track is closed due to a slip on Te Hoe Bluffs. Has anyone been in there since October?
Doc seem to err on the side of caution when it comes to closing tracks.
    I'd appreciate any good info.
    Cheers in advance.

That’s a nasty spot to have a slip

    Won’t be easy to fix

Would there be an alternative route if it involved some bushbashing?

Its been like that for years, and a tramper was badly injured.... and flown out, after falling from the bluff while trying to negotiate the slipped out section several years ago.
People do still use it, but only because there is no alternative unless you drop into the Te Hoe river further back along the track. And that's hobson's choice too.
The stream on the other side of the ridge isn't the easiest traveling either if you drop into it. So most just take their chances with the track which seems to works out.
    A bit like "caveat emptor"

Trampers are still walking that circuit. There have been recent postings on the facebook tramping page saying its a bit dodgy but do-able

Ahh the old Central Tehoe - pissed they pulled down the old hut - they should have left it as historic - went there culling in 1976 - full of rats and a couple of resident possums - steep country but a lot of deer and some decent rainbows in the river - pigs everywhere but skinny
