It didnt take them long to stop hunting. So much for no changes to access.

I was of the understanding that it was a joint venture of Crown and Tuhoe

Tuhoe don't think they have control they know it and it is NZ law that Tuhoe control access to Te Urewera so just get used to it and if you want a good out come work with them on it.
Those that will consider poaching the area should read what has happened to several Hunters in the South Island

1/ Banned for two years from all the decent hunting areas (not just the property the poached)
    2/ Confiscate firearms and vehicles
    3/ Fines and court costs

All well and good mate. However when we have local iwi poaching day in night out and showing nil respect for quarry, the future of ours and other hunters, my respect for them is fucken zero.

is it poaching when you have every right to be there ?

I can only see a limited time to sort out some admin change and then it will be sorted.

Its not just iwi who poach.
Do we know for certain that DOC consulted with Tuhoe prior to their ceasing to issue permits.
If DOC just made an arbitrary decision to cease issuing permits from a certain date with out consolation I would react in exactly the same way.
The world will not end if there are no permits issued for a few months. In fact the hunting will be the better for it as the game will have settled down a bit.

This really sucks. And with all the reassurance of how this will not affect access for New Zealanders. What a load of shit.
Why would you void current permits through a change over unless your aim was to keep hunters out.
Would be surprised if the new permits are free. I for one will not pay a cent to hunt the Urewera.
Hey diddle diddle, aim for the middle.

Wait for it, wait for it. You will have to pay. It will be turned into a money making exercise by Tuhoe because its !!!theirs!!!, so it stands to reason that anything on their land is theirs including the pigs and deer. Get ya wallets out. I wonder how they will police a permit system? DOC couldn't manage it. Maybe they will have heavys roaming the bush looking for hunters that don't have permits. That could be interesting.
