    Umukarikari Track

    Howdy all,

    I'm considering going for an explore up the Umukarikari Track this weekend as I've never been up there.

    Has anyone had much luck up there, much sign etc?
    Hard on the gear...

    Its a gud climb comes out on open tops ,had not alot of luck higher up rarely seen much up there not to say there isnt - bumped in to a nice red stag an seen the odd sika glassing round, found most japs a bit lower down more or less off the waipakahi and its
    side creeks ,the poled track takes you past the cone and down to the waipakahi hut ,the car park could be a bit dodgy leaving vehicles over night - hope this helps others may have had more luck..

    Might just do a day walk up there if we're not comfortable with the parking situation...

    Thought I'd get a topo map of this area, does anyone know which map reference number this is?

    Looks like BH35 or 36 accordingly to this...

    I use TOPO NZMS 260 1:50,000 mine say's Tongariro T19 , looks to me like if you use Topo 50 series you get less in the width more in the hight of the map and may need both BH 35 and BH36

    NZ Walking Access Mapping System

    can turn on doc layers marking doc land then switch to aerial for overhead photos to pic good feed lots and clearings
