    Underwater hunting for Kingies

My mate Dale and I bagged a couple of nice Kingies each yesterday off the Aldermans down at Tairua yesterday. One was 9 and the other 13kg. The biggest shot was 25 so no mega kings were seen. All my time on the range lately has paid off with my speargun seemingly being unable to miss all day! Managed to stone the smaller one (88cm) right in the brain. The larger one (97cm) proved much harder to land

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

    Well done, good fish
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

HAHA yeah the big one did. I've been running myself ragged trying to get fit for hunting and i guess i could have left a rest day before this dive. Being the first kingy i've seen in ages i wanted to land him so badly. I got him to the surface too quickly and he still had 3/4 of a can of woop-ass left in him. By the end of it i had two burning arms and two cramped ass cheeks - This was quite comical and terrifying at the same time. I was a little more picky with my shots on the next one!

A seal tried to bite my mates first big kingy too. I was returning and hadnt seen him - the kingy i was training my gun on just went upwards and popped onto the rocks. Thinking 'WTF" i looked up and so mr shaggy looking down at me!

I just saw some spearfishing on the ITM fishing show yesterday. They got all sorts of stuff. It looks like awesome fun. I'd love to get into it (there are so many things I want to get into ).

    Nice going DIB.

How long to you have to be able to hold your breath for?

Not that long eh. Its more a case of getting yourself to slow down and keep your heart rate down. At the moment i can only get down to 15 odd metres but when im used to it i find that easy and i can stay about 20secs at that level. I go to 20m but only if i see a fish to dive bomb. Takes a while to get back up and you dont want to trust your mates CPR skills!
