    Unusual Issue

I have a free weekend to go hunting this week.
Most People would probably be itching at the chance to go out for a weekend and have at the drop of the hat have a fair idea of where they'd head to.
    I dont

    My issues are .

    -No mates are free
-Struggling to narrow a location/Species (anywhere within a few hours of chch.....)

Im relatively new to this hunting thing ,have been out a dozen times seen animals but haven't had any on the deck. Worked in the bush a bit here and overseas so thats nothing new .

At this time of year im guessing it's good to focus on Spring Tahr/Venison ?

Ive been leaning towards heading up the rangitata maybe pushing to growler , checked the weather, checked the flow seems good to me. After watching @gimps spring tahr video its got me excited. Is this a feasible idea alone ? Mainly worried more about navigating the river.

Failing that Im at the point where im going to flick to a page in the spot x book and just jump at the first spot i see

While I work weekends myself and have the same problem on days off when midweek, everyone I know is working. I do have a mate who is here in Chch that likes to hunt but I cannot go so if you PM me an email address or phone number I can get him to touch base with you and see whats what. He may not be able to go this weekend , but he is also keen to put meat on the table so I am sure he would be interested.

I had the same problem for a while.. Now I just go.. Found some awesome country and love going bush on my own..
Just remember, tell people where you're going and when you'll be back, and stick to that plan.. Carry a plb, and think safety..

I often hunt alone up the Rangitata. I will be there tonight looking for a bull thats given me the slip a few weeks ago.

Are you still heading in, if so I can point you in the right direction to find an animal or two?

@Hayden C Would I be able to take you up on that offer? I have never been into the Rangitata and I am looking to head in there over New Years for 3-4 days.

Not trying to put a damper on your plans or anything but unless you like crowds I wouldn't bother with the Rangitata over the holiday period...

Mainly going in to camp with some family friends, a few evenings walks wouldn't go astray though.

Send me a PM with your email address and I will send through some nice spots I used to hunt regularly when I lived in Canterbury. All within 3 hours of city centre.

Rejuvenating an old thread. I'm now a full time shift worker so find I have plenty of time off during mid week. I often have 3 and a half days off in a row so can easily squeeze an overnighter in there. I'm always looking for new people to hunt around Canterbury with.
