    upper caples ballot

Just checked the mailbox and was lucky enough to gain a ballot in the upper caples in mid-late may. It looks a little different to the lower caples (I have hunted that once) and was wondering if anyone has any experience up there and possibly some advice on where and how etc
    Ya can't park there mate.

I wonder how much effect the 1080 drop in there had? Anyone know when we apply for the winter ballot?

Was in there first period last year. Didn't see anything worth shooting, saw plenty of deer though. They're easy to find.

The hut you use is now managed by the qtown lakes deerstalkers, it is awesome how you can book it out and not worry about sharing with others!! Namely smelly trampers!!

If you want any specific info, send me a PM. Josh.

We have lower greenstone. Late May. 25th I think. Our party is 3, so there will be one extra from the ballot to make it up to 4.

As above, I've been in there as well. Nice block and easy walk in to a great hut.

Happy to answer nay questions via PM as well if you have something the others don't know.

Take a good jacket, we had a couple days very heavy rain, was good to crank the fire in the hut...haha.

As Josh said lots of animals and spread out around the block, we hunted up Fraser and Kay creeks, my mate seen 13 animals in about 8 hours up Fraser.

If the weather is shit and you get a wee break, head out close to hut, seen 6 in a wee break in weather about 20 mins from the hut.

Do DOC a favour and take a meat animal if you can carry it out

    Cheers

We had animals sleeping in the hut clearing while we were in the hut

Very cool guys, not sure what our plan is yet but knowing my partner in crime, will be going up high as we only a two man team. Probably the spur between Frazer and kay and doubtful bout the hut. Have yet to sit down and figure our hunt plans out yet. So exciting! Will keep in touch here

Have been up there and spent a couple of nights, good tarn to camp beside.

Very good sign inside the bush edge as you would expect, was really after a cham and didn't really get onto any there...not to say they are not there.

Easy walk up the ridge to access, walking along to tarn on, couple of big slips to negotiate but no big drama.

Be careful where you pitch your tent, glad I had the minaret with bathtub floor, I camped right beside the tarn and just about floated away...good test for a new tent.

    Cheers

    Hi everyone!
Just following this thread and thought would be ok to share some "short cuts".
I live locally in the area but i only hunt the middle cables once last year, so i am not good enough to give advice in that, however, for those who may like a quick and "easy" access i can suggest the brand new helicopter company operating from Glenorchy. I quote myself flights to mid Greenstone for the roar and i think they have the best price you can get for a drop off and pick up if needed.

Follow their contact if someone is keen in services like it.
