Idaho was my home hunting state. Good to hunt.
I giggle when people here say “golly gee, I wish we managed our game like you do in the states”
    My response…
“Oh yeah? You wanna be able to shoot 1 deer for during one week each year??!!”
    Y’all have fun over there.
Bothe the super complicated super cool super ‘merica tag lottery systems of Washington and Idaho blew a gasket this year and told thousands of people they got a great tag when they actually didn’t. I just got a buncha mail from merica and apparently I drew a buncha tags when I didn’t even apply or have a license.

Yeah. Was pretty easy back then, just walk up and buy a tag.

I've hunted bow deer in Idaho unit 54 and can pass on info you wanted. Its easy to draw (100% odds last couple of years) but a hard hunt. I wasn't successful but was a cool hunt among huge rutting bull elk.

I may need some advice and suggestions for hunting WY at some stage if you don’t mind mate.

Currently up to 6 points for elk, deer and antelope in WY.

@cb14 Are there any states where we could purchase OTC tags for mule or white tail bucks as a non resident?
Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.

Having worked in game management in a couple of Eu countries I thought some of our ways were bad enough, the US system would drive me nuts.

Not in the states that I hunt, maybe in the east but I’m not familiar with those. There are states that don’t have preference points which means your odds are the same as the other applicants, like New Mexico and Idaho. But the odds aren’t great.

Holler if you have any questions, I've lived in Wyoming my entire life and have been hunting for 25+ years.

    Thats a great offer Carl.

I'll be in southern WY in a couple of weeks hunting the youth only opener with my son in elk area 21. Have you hunted this area?

Awesome, good luck to you guys! No I haven't hunted 21, but the Sierra madre mountains have a lot of elk. I have hunted antelope north east of Baggs and have seen elk, don't don't write off the lower country. I need to take advantage of those youth seasons and take my kids over there. There is a youth only deer season as well in that region.

    Thanks Carl.

Yeah, I considered that deer tag around Baggs for my son last year but skipped it due to the bad winter. My son did get an H regional tag but didn't see any shooters.

I'm heading over to Texas in 17 days time for 2 months.
Was there this time last year as well, and there's deer on the place I'm staying, But I really aren't interested in shooting them.
It's just so cool to see them hanging around the house.

Same in my case - I certainly am able to shoot deer , but I like to sit in a stand and watch them do deer things. And see the squirrels and the birds and all the wee creatures that you miss when you are walking .

Theres way more to hunting than killing deer , in my opinion. Specially in another country,

I think I get your meaning and I respect it, but you're not really hunting if you don't kill.

I am also not a fan of dropping a tame whitetail doe on a farm, but doing a DIY trip taking horses into Wyoming grizzly country for a week and killing a big 6 point elk in remote wilderness is a different experience.
