    Waikukupa river walking access

    Hi all,
Hoping someone here would be able to give some insight into access into the waikukupa river. Looking at heading up there next week for 3-4 nights. Looking routes etc to get up into the head waters. If anyone has any photos of the country would be a bonus too.
Any information at all would be highly appreciated!
    Cheers

Don’t know about upstream of the main road, but have been down stream to some clearings that looks promising but proved to be disappointing. There was a little bit of deer sign there but no where near as much as you would expect.

A local told me that the area in the beech gap was poisoned regularly to prevent the spread of Tb as the West Coast to the south of here is apparently Tb free.

Looks good upstream, but pretty steep country.

    Cheers for that
Yea does look reasonably steep just trying to get a grasp for what it’s actually like or ways into the head as maps only show you so much

Little creeks like the hare mare and Bullock etc are short walks with chamois up them.

Ok thanks, ideally wanting to camp in the head basins. Essentially trying to go to the head of a valley for a few nights with hunting of both species somewhere on the west coast, have looked on Maps and this took our interest really

I’ve walked up stream from the road bridge. Didn’t really get very far. You’ll get reasonably wet after not too long.

Did a day trip up there and pretty steep. Not a bad slip face to glass up there. Yep pretty wet place.

I only had a day so walked up half a day with a few stop offs to glass. Very much a rocky place.
