    Wallabies

Some of you South Island guys might be able to answer this for me.

What is the main range for wallabies?

I thought they were mainly around Waimate. The only reason I ask is as I drove home yesterday there were wallabies dead on the side of the road from Burke’s pass to North of Fairlie.

Is this inside their normal range?

They can be found essentially anywhere between the rangitata and waitaki rivers, and a long way inland too - they’ve been seen as far up as Mt Cook area. They’re also settling in south of the waitaki these days too.

Prime domain though is right up the spine of the hunter hills, albury range, rollesby, hakataramea.

The hills west of Fairlie are crawling with them, and they can also be found in various spots up through the Two Thumb, although not quite in the same widespread numbers.

Jacinda’s going to make them illegal, and then they’ll all go away, and we will all be safe……

I saw one up the leatham in Marlborough about 12 years ago. Doc found one on the side of the road around Nelson lakes a couple years back too. Haven't seen one since though.

Had a good trip of pest control on some private land by Hakataramea. Plenty fun getting rid of some of them

They are also excellent eating. I love them from the slow cooker.
