Thread: Wapiti Block Charles

hi guys, me and a few mates from the northern island and sunny bay of plenty, have drawn the Charles block 2nd period 2022, wondering if anyone has any information of the area. bugger all online, also any handy tips or gear we should be taking, Cheers

Been in there about 20 years ago. Camped on the tops on the Irene R side.
The big flat down in the river is a swamp Wouldn't advise getting dropped off there.

Have not hunted there so take this with a grain of salt but it's well away from the core area so may be mostly reds. They hammer the reds with WARO so it would seem to be more sensible to hunt low in the valley/bush rather than the empty tops?

Now and then ?........I was there 50 years ago up the Irene river valley on the true right. We climbed up to the bush line and mainly hunted there?
We didn't see many deer let alone Wapiti......Then 1971 to now 2021, Over this time period have the Wapiti genetics increased in this area being on the southern boundary of the Wapiti area?

Air transport and landscapes......We landed by floatplane at high tide which means it was easy to set up a base camp just inside the bush. Next day we made our way up the valley at high tide which was a mistake. When we came back down the valley the tide was out which made travelling to the base camp easy. Then the float plane came in at low tide and that was another adventure to get to the floatplane. That area never appeal to me.

Hi cammit, how did you go finding information on your block. I'm interested because I just found out that mate of mine has got us the same block after you guys. So maybe we could share any info we get.

Stars are where i have camped. Highlighted where we saw deer / heard lots of roaring. This was about 12 years ago now but there should be good numbers in there as there is a lot of bush.
