    Wapiti Block Light River

So, get a phone call late this evening from a mate who can only be described as happy as a pig in shite. Turns out we been offered a first refusal on a wapiti block for the bugle. Block 3 Light River. Neither of us know anything about it and are after some help/advice. Has anyone been in here before and can advise on best way to get in? Looking at maps seems only way in is by plane or chopper. Does anyone know of a "reasonably priced" company that can help? Basically we need to figure out whether or not we can actually afford the trip in and out before we get too excited about the prospect. Also if anyone has been in the block before and can offer advice that would be awesome.

    Cheers

Depends how many in your party? If there 2-4 I'd Ring Jonathan at Fiordland Helicopters for a price, great bloke & good operator, if you have a large party then a squirrel would be the way to go so call Southern Lakes Helicopters (Hannibal Hayes)

I would hazard a rough guess at the cost being around $1500 return if you used Jonathan (awesome bloke and top service) and $1800-$2000 if using southern lakes squirrel, they can also fly you in a R44 but charge it out at the same rate as Jonathan charges to fly in a 500 and I know what I would be flying in given a choice....

Too far north for those guys. Was $2000 fit a round trip for A slung squirrel load in about 2011 from Milford. Although not to sure about some of their current pilots

As Wildman has pointed out driving to Milford Sound & flying in with Milford Helicopters could be the go.

I second that as well. We had a great roar there. As also mentioned just reds but some good character stags. If you are still after more info I can draw on a map for you where we went and had the best success. Also crays, paua and Tarakihi around from the mouth (a boat with a motor is key for getting the seafood, we paddled and it sucked!)

Thanks @onamission but after pricing etc between the group we decided not this year. Just a bit too much for some of us at the moment. Had it been the Glaisnock however would've started doing serious fund raising.

    Thanks anyways
