That is a serious amount of money so there now needs to be prosecutions with the maximum penalty to send a message that poaching will not be tolerated.

What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Great to see, but could also come back to bite the inexperienced. What about DoC land that borders onto private land with no defined boundary and you stray off coarse unknowingly onto private land (bush) and shoot a deer. Would this fall under the same category of unlawful hunting?

Hopefully it serves as a deterrent to those considering poaching. The comments on the story are pretty hard to read.

Wtf the comments at the bottom are messed up. Haare tukariri... unfounded anger at an unrelated issue may actually be the appropriate interpretation of that name. Some people are just too embarassing...

definitely sounds like mates trying to detract from the crime their mate has commited and shift the focus/blame elsewhere.

good to see some decent penaltys for poaching. Get that aspect nailed then we can start really putting the pressure for improved access to land locked doc blocks. No point pushing for it trying to claim we are all responsible when the mechanism for dealing with those that are undesirable is so weak

As I maintain, does that mean we can go after doc (spit here) too? I do know of instances where they condone poaching, by chopper no less. The doc guy even told us how they do it. WTF?
So that must make them a part of said crime.

I've done both sides of the fence, I also know cops that have too.....
Nothing wrong with sensible poaching, but some are just fuckwits about it. I'll also note here, no serious poaching in the likes of the blues then all of a sudden "we need to poison"....
