Without stating a rego you saw through your bino's - colour of a machine/type wouldn't stand up. Can't beat the camera.
Didn’t see any point, I don’t think they were doing anything wrong or illegal.
There are too many deer and goats in there, it’s well known Doc and at least one private operator are culling and or doing Waro in the area.
In fairness, as soon as he saw our camp, he moved out and into the next catchment. He could have stayed and shot more. We were grateful he left us alone when he realised we were there.
The next day we heard them flying and shooting in catchments either side of us, but they stayed away from us. So no complaints, we were stoked.
Yes it sucks when you have a chopper shooting the shit out of the same area. Particularly when it seems they are targeting the stags (bigger animals for the kg)
We’re not sure this is the case, but we’ve hunted this particular area for many years and always see-hear good numbers of stags.
Perhaps this year we were just unlucky.
I also know one of the pilots for Helicopters Nelson is a hunter. He’s has flown in there and taken a good stag. One we left the year earlier as he needed another year…
It’s all part of hunting & the challenge of hunting Doc land.
