    Waro in the south

Question for all, anyone seen any Waro activity down in the south island lately?

It always seems like the RHA has free care animals wondering the tops, but across the road, not in the RHA, animal numbers are dramatically lower, and they don't venture far.

Hopefully the link below works, but yes, there are plenty of WARO Concessions in place/active. Mostly South Island. Just a matter of if it's profitable to do at the moment is debatable.

Yeah I have seen those, and got the e letter.

But doc doesn't keep any records of where waro has actually taken place.

I'm just opening a thread to see if anyone has seen any Waro activity going on recently.

Not WARO but 1080 going on in Kahurangi, probably not today with the wind but has been over the last week or two.

Some WARO has occurred in some of the recently opened concession areas (northern Southland etc) , but the bulk of WARO is happening on private land in the past 12 months or so.

The prices still aren't that flash, so easy access and short haul is pretty important to operators.

The reality is, WARO does happen and will continue to do so based on demand. Animal numbers are high, and therefore, it's good if it occurs as most responsibility operator target hinds anyway (unless pickings are really slim).

There's an oxymoron in that statement...

WARO generally targets the bigger animals if they can. Less air time per kg of meat recovered. Simple law of economics.

Depends on the agreement with the landowners. I know we mainly focus on hinds. But we don't do any public land either. Name: IMG_20240316_105319_988.jpg
