    Wasps, What do you carry.

Got whacked by a wasp that had got into clothing.
Just a scratch hardly a sting like I have had.
The swelling reaction has reminded me to carry something when in the bush.
What do you use/recommend as the numbers in places CNI are maybe not South Island but enough
to make you think what if.
Must be part of getting older etc but even bee sting reaction is worse now.

I'd use Razene antihistamine, and an anti inflammatory like Ibuprofen

I just carry a generic brand antihistamine in tablet form. Wasps will see you get sensitised, I used to get real bad reactions when I was being stung about 20 times a year but not so bad now I am being stung maybe twice a year. I always find the ones around the farm have a dirty stinger, any sting from those guys gets infected.

Nothing particularly, although my first ad kit always has antihistamines in anyway.

As above for antihistamines. More so since I almost lost my dog to multiple stings in Nelson lakes Beech area

If you frequent an area that has a wasp issue, look into using Vespex

Used to use a lot of anti itch cream for stings. Found also as I get old I react more to stings mozzie through to wasps.
Good old Gremlin I found works best. Good on nettles as well.
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along

I always have a tube of Anthisan cream in a baggie with compass and pull-thru (things I hope not to need)

it's good on most stinging/bitey insects, whitetail spider bites, nettle burn, mozzy bites etc. If wasps are real bad would carry antihistamine tablets too.

There are 3 risks with wasp stings: first is getting stung a couple of times. No big deal, you might think. But the toxin remains in your system for a considerable time.We all have a personal threshold for the amount of toxin we can take on board. If you are stung frequently, you will reach your tolerance threshold quickly. Secondly: if you are allergic. About 6 people have died in NZ from being stung when allergic. Thirdly, and this is the one that catches most people by surprise, what if you blunder into a nest and get mulltiple stings over a few seconds? Happened to me and I got 20 odd stings around the throat, and my airway swelled and blocked off. Talk to a chemist- they will often prescribe an antihistamine that suits you and your requirements. The secret is to pop a tablet immediately after the sting(s). I worked with a Landcare wasp researcher who was paid to dig up wasp nests to measure them and determine the population. He got stung a lot. He was told by a doctor to give up his job because the next sting may be his last.

I got stung at Xmas3 times on my right arm took 3months for the stings to heal never use to affect me that much before that so this thread is a good reminder to get something for me and the dog
had to take the dog to a vet after nettle bushes dealt to him and the vet said best to give your dog antihistamines before it happens if you hunt in those areas
