Thread: Weekend hunting kaweka sika

Quick trip weekend just been, into a creek in the kawekas walked in the Friday arvo went for a quick hunt that evening with nothing seen. The next morning we woke up around 4am quick coffee then off up a side creek by 6am we had shot a hind in the creek that was standing with a group of 4 deer, butchered her up and hung the meat under a tree close to the water hoping it would keep it cool. Carried on up around a few more bends then we spyed another 5 deer at 100yards in the creek so my mate tipped over 2 of them both were yearlings, with the meat from these 2 we put into a plastic bag after it had cooled and placed in the creek with some lupin over top to keep the sun of it as we still wanted to carry on and check out some other areas. Ended up way on top of a ridge by lunch time so hung out in the shade of the beech trees until late afternoon, then started out walk back to camp collecting our meat on the way back, then about 200m from camp a spiker was standing in the middle of the creek picking at the tiny bits of fresh growth so lined him up and knocked him over aswell. Got back to our camp around 5.30pm cooked a feed of bacon and eggs and crashed out till the next day, up at 5am walking out before it got to hot! Plenty of deer around in the creeks.
