    Wellington 200m+

    Hi Guys,
Im looking to do some target shooting at 100m, 200m and hopefully out to 300m+ to gain some confidence with a new load.
The NZDA range is a wee bit short and I am hoping there is a generous land owner within an hour or so drive from Porirua who would be happy for me to shoot a few across a gully or similar.
In the past I made a weekend of walking up to the tops, however with a 1 yr old I have found weekends to be in short supply.....
Any help or suggestions much appreciated!
    Cheers

The Wairarapa shooting sports club range has events when they go out to 300m by closing the other ranges. Might not help now, but in future. The 300m shots are reasonably regular

Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.

    Hi Ash,
You can join us on the Seddon / Trentham range as a guest if you want to shoot 300 - 1000y on electronic targets.
If it is your first time, you have to start at 300y (defence range rules) and then you can move on to the longer ranges there after. National Champs are ongoing now, so have a look at the calendar ( https://www.petonerifleclub.co.nz/club-calendar) for the next 300y day and give me (or the club via the website) a heads up if you want to come over.

Electronic targets just mean you get to shoot more and walk less (have a look at this: https://youtu.be/xNM7EJRX3_I

The only thing to keep in kind is that the projectile have to be still supersonic when it gets to the target (about 1300fps should be good) as it uses microphones to calculate exactly where your impact was. So you can see your impacts on your mobile phone within a second or so after you pulled the trigger.

Normal format is 2 sighters and ten shots for score. You do not have to shoot all of that though. Lot of fun, so be warned it is addictive…

Just addictive? I popped down yesterday, looks expensive too! There were some nice looking rifles there.

    He shoots a 270.

    Seddon Range Standing Orders states:

    Max Performance (for Centerfire)
    - Ammunition that exceeds any one of the following performances:
    (a) A maximum muzzle velocity (MV) of 1,000 m/s (3,280 f/s)
    (b) A maximum muzzle energy (ME) of 4500 J (3,319 ft/lbs).
