Ah. The truth comes out. I can see how it would get annoying though. His house isn't too far from the road and having utes at all hours would be annoying.

No dogs allowed. I don't own one so I have never asked. No harm in trying but if he says no then try wairere falls or hurunui access further down the road.

He is very approachable. I've chatted to him at his house twice. Once for directions and the other for a stray cow. I leave the rifle and pack 25 M away though.
