It was pretty quiet in the Pureora’s for me over the weekend. Passed up a young stag but took a couple hinds for meat. Had some fallow croaking in Whanganui yesterday. Managed to get an old buck with a few recent battle wounds.

Just got out of the Kaimanawas before the weather. Heard a few roars Sunday but not much after that. Only had a few distant replys the next two days.

Just got back from Te Puke Hut area. Heard 4-5 hee haw between 8-10 April ... which was a massive improvement on nothing last year at similar time.

Got out for a couple nights last weekend in northern southland. Managed to by far get my biggest stag to date, couldn't believe it. Dropped him off at the taxidermist yesterday. Stags were going off everywhere and saw an excess of 35 deer bush hunting!! Definitely too many around down here now.

in full swing northern tararuas last night and this morning.This time last year the roaring was all finished.

Went out for a wee walk this morning, a few moans here and there but no replies. It's been a very late roar this year!

Hopefully getting out next week so cant comment on the roar but as to getting stags out for comps I know several people back in the day that either used their own chopper to get to a good spot and fly them out or as a lift for others animals

I went for a walk in Pureora today. No roars heard, and the wallows being used three weeks ago hadn't been recently used.
Bumped one young stag, no hinds with him but when I mewed he stopped and played peekaboo with us for a few minutes, he was probably thinking he had struck it lucky finding a late-cycling hind.

Few territory calls in Clements fri night through to this arvo. Nothing keen to come in on roars or reply though.
