    What would you do ?

I got out for a arvo hunt the other day, So I headed to a new area which turned out alright, Came across 2 hinds, I could of shot one or both of them but decided not to being this time of year (hinds pregnant). This question I think has been asked before .... Would you of shot one of the hinds or sat back and watched them like I did ?

So close to dropping I would leave them be unless you want the slinky for its skin
In the human world it would be classed as a murder

Deer are like women, fat as pigs when carrying young.
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.

I'm sure people would say I shouldnt be shooting Stags this time of year ( no antlers, leave for trophys etc ) I wont shoot fat hinds about to drop.

So, would you shoot a stag at this time of year with no timber up?...it may be next years trophy.

There are 5 local stags that now wont be making trophies next year As some on here may have learnt, I'm not a trophy hunter in the slightest.

At the moment I would take anything, because the freezer is low on venison.
However come the middle of this month when hinds are likely to have dropped there young I would never intentionally shoot a mature hind until late Feb when the fawn will most likely survive on its own just fine.
In open country from now on(tops) if you spot deer you generally have a choice so that makes it easy to pick stags/yearlings.

If I can avoid it I would but my freezer is empty of venison at moment and it has been a long time since I knocked one over

I would have shot them both, or had a bloody good crack at it...you did your best at trying to stop them getting in calf during the roar by shooting stags. Slinky is only any good if you intend to get mounted and damage easily unless you put them down the front of your shirt...Asians pay good money for slinks...anyway, you may have found both hinds were barren.

I guess all those that voted no never shoot hinds from the end of march threw to the end of march? because they are of course pregnant from the roar till mid/late November then suckling threw till the end of summer.

So if you voted no you don't shoot hinds, don't complain about control measures then.

On this forum I think there were more hinds shot in the roar than stags, and more stags shot since they lost their timber than when they had it.
