    At the moment I would take anything, because the freezer is low on venison.
    However come the middle of this month when hinds are likely to have dropped there young I would never intentionally shoot a mature hind until late Feb when the fawn will most likely survive on its own just fine.
    In open country from now on(tops) if you spot deer you generally have a choice so that makes it easy to pick stags/yearlings.
