I use an app called iHike GPS. Downloaded all the topo maps for the areas I hunt and it switches to them automatically when you are in the area. Location is locked on almost instantly, unlike other GPS's I have owned. Keep it in a clear waterproof pouch with a decent case and protective tempered glass screen cover. And also carry a powerbank that gives at least 3 full charges.
In fiordland I used a cheap solar charger instead of the powerbank and it lasted the whole 10 days, even with listening to a bit of music while stuck in the tent for 48 hours.
I only really use the GPS for marking good spots and lookouts and checking it to see how far away I am from a track or other destination.
What phones are you guys running?
I find touch screens dont work when wet/cracked/in a cover/wearing gloves/they just want to be a c(*&.
Maybe I just need a new trade that isnt so hard on Phones.
I have an S7 with tempered glass screen protector (which is cracked to all hell but phone works great). Dropped the welder on it today but its still working. My welding (tig) sure does not look as good as yours but since I never tried till yesterday its OK.
Building an antenna mount for work, boss is big into DIY and learning new things.
Would appreciate that. I'd post a pic but to ashamed, at least it takes my not insignificant weight and is not warped.
Get a "tempered glass screen protector " for you next phone. they work a damn sight better than the plastic ones

Well it looks like you need an apple in the woods to get out of the orchard
Shit the bed the topo map was mint, fast as location pick up, as accurate as my garmin 850. Just turned the garmin off and threw it in the pack.
Stags going well from 5:30pm till about 11 and then again from 7am till we buggered off. They were safe from us in their hell holes. Worst guts ive tried to hunt before, super noisy floor.
This little dork was pestering us, got about a minute 30 of me telling him to piss off :D
